Programs offered by the Urban League of Kansas
The Urban League of Kansas offers a variety of programs intended to assist members of the community in achieving economic self-reliance and integration into the mainstream.
Our three-pronged approach to this mission represents the various programs we implement. These are: Housing and Economic Development, Education and Youth Empowerment, and Workforce Development.
Housing and Economic Development
The Housing Counseling Program provides a full range of housing counseling. As a HUD-approved counseling entity, the program offers pre-purchase, post-purchase, pre-rental, mortgage default, reverse mortgage, and first-time home buyer education, as well as counseling for landlords and tenants on disputes and rights.
Key focus areas of the center:
- Financial literacy education
- First-time homebuyer education
- Fair-housing advocacy
Education
The Urban League of Kansas seeks to enable young people in the community so that they can be self-sufficient in the 21st century. Through education programs offered at our Community Learning Center, we strive to ensure that the children in the community are able to achieve with the tools they are given.
The goal of our Community Learning Center:
- Increase graduation rates
- Close academic achievement gaps
- Increase employability
- Create awareness of post-secondary opportunities
Workforce Development
To the ULK, Workforce Development means helping the community by assisting individuals in creating sustainable employability. This means specialized training offered by qualified professionals. That's why we partner with other community members to bring together the resources necessary to offer high-quality training services to individuals looking to change or reestablish a career trajectory.
We offer:
- Classes by trained professionals
- One-on-one counseling on job readiness
- Advising on how to become more employable
- Financial aid and assistance where needed
- Programs with integrated job placement opportunities
